Home Laser Printer: A Review of the HP P2035N LaserJet Printer

For a home business owner, a home laser printer is also an important tool for the better development of his business, especially if he wants to create professional advertisements and documents for his clients and suppliers. If you're one of these people who want to have a great laser printer for business and professional use, the HP P2035N LaserJet Printer is one of the models that I highly recommend for your use. This is an in-depth review of the device.

Design

As a laser printer, it has the look of one, but it doesn't have that bulkiness and heaviness that a lot of other laser printers sport. It has the dimensions of 14.4'' x 14.5'' x 10.1'' and a weight of 23.8 pounds. It's perfect for use at home and you can place it on a shelf or tabletop without causing any obstruction. However, you can only limit the location of the device according to the length of the Ethernet wire that you connect it with to the network. This means you can share the printer with other computers within the same network, eliminating the need for additional printers as well as expenses. This is great for a printing business that makes use of several computers.

The device has a simple white body with a hollow paper feeder on the top. There is no LCD display and it also has minimal buttons. You won't need a display for the device since it isn't wireless-enabled, and it doesn't have other connectivity options. You can only access it using a computer. If you're looking for a more flexible model that offers wireless functions, you can upgrade this system by buying a separate hardware that can make this device wireless-enabled, or you can buy a different model which offers wireless capability.

Printing and Other Functions

This is a dedicated monochrome printer and you can only print black and white and grayscale text and images on it. So if you own a business that requires printing colored brochures and flyers, this is not the model for you. But as a black and white printer, this is definitely excellent. It can print up to 30 pages per minute or as fast as 2 seconds per page. It produces a resolution of 600x600 dpi with an effective 1200 dpi output. Although it does not feature automatic duplex printing, it has a manual support provided in the system so you can just install it when you need it. This is a perfect home laser printer for business and professional use.

There are two paper trays of the device - a multipurpose tray that can handle 50 sheets, and an input tray that can handle 250 sheets. The sizes of paper that each tray can handle are different. For the multipurpose tray, you can print on letter, legal, statement, and executive size papers; index cards; and envelopes. For the other input tray, you can only print on three sizes of papers: letter, legal, and executive.

The duty cycle of the printer can have a maximum of 25,000 pages, so you can print up to 806 pages everyday and have no problems with the machine. It also has a built-in memory of 16MB that allows you to print several documents in a single setting, or one very long and complex document without pauses and cuts.

Other Features

The device has a quiet mode that eliminates the noise during printing for a more pleasant working condition. It can also print the first page in as fast as 8 seconds, direct from ready mode, which makes it easier for you to print quickly and finish your tasks faster.

However, there are three flaws of the device that can catch the attention of business owner who want to purchase this product. First, it does not support the bigger ink cartridges from HP, and the small cartridges are very expensive. This makes the ink cost of every page reach up to $0.40, while the big ink cartridge can only produce $0.25-$0.30 of cost per page. If you are conscious about the ink consumption of your printer, this may be a drawback for you. But if you only care about the quality of prints, this will not be a problem because this model is certainly a top-class device. Second, it is not an Energy Star qualified device, which means that you don't get to save energy from using this model. But for its printing quality, that might not be a big concern. Third, it may have some issues with the network connectivity, but this is not applicable to all models. There are just some reports regarding the failure of networking using this model. But this may be a setup flaw, and if you connect it properly, it will surely work fine.

Conclusion

A home laser printer is quite expensive, but the HP P2035N LaserJet Printer is one great monochrome laser printing device that's not only remarkable for its performance but also a great bargain for its price. I highly recommend this model to all home business owners out there who need a valuable laser printer that's worth the investment, but is still fairly affordable for its quality.
